    Robert Carpenter

    Director of Site Development and CRM

    Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership

    Robert is the Director of Site Development and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) for HOBY. He has greatly appreciated the partnership with Phi Sigma Pi (PSP) and the incredible volunteers that have participated at HOBY. Having a history in both the nonprofit and educational world as a former mathematics teacher, Robert loves investing in the next generation through building systems and structures to inspire a fulfilling volunteer experience and impact.

    In his spare time, he coaches youth sports, serves as a school board member at his local school district, and loves hiking the Vermont mountains with his family.

    HOBY Youth Leadership

    Michael Carter (he/him) comes to us with a wealth of experience both with HOBY and professionally. His journey started as an Ambassador (1989 Mid-Florida HOBY) and consisted of numerous roles spanning over 20 years, including Corporate Board President, Leadership Seminar Chair, Director of Recruitment, Director of Facilitators, and WLC Facilitator. HOBY is a family endeavor for him as he has shared this experience with all three of his daughters, watching them go through the program, volunteering alongside them at the local level, and experiencing WLC with them as well. 

    Prior to HOBY, Michael worked at Publix Super Markets, Inc. for 33 years, leaving as the Director of Corporate Accounting. His professional experience includes financial accounting and analysis, as well as project management of systems and strategic initiatives.  His passion for cost savings, process improvements, and innovation serves us well here at HOBY. Michael continues to work alongside and support all the Corporate Boards and helps HOBY catapult forward with all the exciting initiatives! He lives in Lakeland, Florida, with his wife, Nancy, and enjoys going to theme parks, lounging poolside, and staying active.

    Emily Lewis

    Emily Lewis (she/her) is a 2002 Kansas HOBY alumna and she has extensive HOBY volunteer experience. Emily served 19 years as a dedicated HOBY volunteer, taking on eleven roles at nearly every level for Kansas HOBY and the World Leadership Congress (WLC), culminating in her leading the Kansas HOBY Corporate Board and chairing the 2016 WLC.

    Emily’s volunteer work not only strengthened her commitment to HOBY, but also solidified her desire to pursue graduate education in youth development and a career in the nonprofit world. With a professional background that has combined vision development, fundraising, marketing and communications, and program development, Emily joined the HOBY Headquarters team in October of 2021. Emily lives in Austin, TX with her partner and she loves to watch crime documentaries, find yummy new places to eat, and spend time with her family, especially her niece, Ada!

    Angie Magazino

    Angie Magazino (she/her) is a 2001 Eastern PA HOBY and World Leadership Congress (WLC) alumna. Since her ambassador year, she has volunteered at various local state leadership seminar sites across the country, as well as Community Leadership Workshops (CLeWs), the WLC, and Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA). Angie has served in lots of volunteer roles, but her favorites include facilitating, vice chair of program, and the WLC chair.

In 2022, she joined the HOBY Headquarters team as Chief of Program Development and Training.  Outside of HOBY, Angie lives in Philadelphia, PA with her German Shepherd Ama and enjoys traveling, home DIY projects, and curling up with a good Netflix series (recommendations welcome!).

    An information session about volunteering at the World Leadership Congress.

    This information session is for anyone who is interested in volunteering for the World Leadership Congress (WLC) in Chicago this July! Attend this info. session to learn more, or sign up on the WLC Volunteer Interest Form to receive application updates.

    The WLC Leadership Team is excited to announce the release of the 2023 WLC Volunteer Application with a first-round due date for key roles on December 18. We encourage prospective applicants to review the WLC 2023 Volunteer Application Guide to learn more about role descriptions, volunteer expectations, and key dates.

    HOBY World Leadership Congress

    Juan Mendizabal (he/him) is the WLC 2023 Chair. He is a 2007 Mid-Florida HOBY alumnus and volunteered with Mid-Florida and South Florida HOBY for over a decade, holding various director roles and the Leadership Seminar Chair role. This will be Juan's eighth year with the WLC, and he is ready to work alongside this year's volunteer team to create a world-class leadership education experience!

    Chris Berry

    Chris Berry (he/they) is the WLC 2023 Incoming Chair. He is a 2004 Southern California HOBY alumnus and has volunteered with HOBY California sites for 18 years in various roles, including as leadership seminar chair. He currently serves as chair of the HOBY California Board of Directors. This will be Chris's ninth year with the WLC, and he is excited to focus on empowering and supporting WLC volunteers' growth in his role as incoming chair.

    Mark Broomfield  (he/him) is the WLC 2023 Vice Chair of Ambassador Experience. He is a 2008 HOBY Texas North alumnus and volunteered with HOBY North Texas for over a decade. This will be Mark's eighth year with the WLC, and he is honored to lead HOBY's outstanding facilitation volunteers in this role.

    Jasmine Johns (she/her) is a 2007 Texas-Capital Area alumna and current Corporate Board President with nearly 15 years of volunteer experience. Jasmine is excited to return for her fifth year at the WLC as the 2023 Vice Chair of Operations and is excited to learn, grow, and serve with the WLC team.

    Cy Serrano (he/him) is this year’s Vice Chair of Program. He’s a 2003 Cal-Central HOBY alum and has been volunteering with HOBY at both the local level and the WLC in various roles since. This is his third year on the program team, and he is excited to work with our amazing leadership team to create a magical experience in July.

    This HOBY Huddle will focus on what to do if someone says no to sending a student to HOBY, and how to get the past the objection.

    HOBY Huddles are a dedicated space for our community to connect and share best practices, discuss challenges, seek solutions, and get to know other HOBY volunteers!  This will be a brief, focused opportunity to sit down with a few other HOBY volunteers to discuss a topic that's important to you!
