This information session is for anyone who is interested in volunteering for the World Leadership Congress (WLC) in Washington, D.C. this July! The WLC Leadership Team is excited to announce the Volunteer Application. We encourage prospective applicants to review the 2026 Application Guide to learn more about role descriptions, volunteer expectations, and key dates.

Blake (he/him) is a 12-year HOBY volunteer with 8 years of experience at the WLC. He has served on the Operations team for the past 4 years and is thrilled to bring the WLC to Washington D.C. and ensure a seamless operational experience for volunteers and ambassadors.
Leah Barteldes (Moderator)
2026 WLC Vice Chair of Program

Leah (she/they) is the 2026 WLC Vice Chair of Program. After serving in the role in 2025, Leah is excited to return to the team and welcome a new group of ambassadors and volunteers to her home in Washington, D.C. She looks forward to working with the Program Team to deliver the WLC curriculum while reflecting D.C.'s cultural richness, history, and energy.
Mallory Orr (Moderator)
2026 WLC Chair

Mallory (she/her) is the 2026 WLC Chair. She is a 2009 HOBY Southern California alumnus who has volunteered with HOBY for the past 16 years, in various roles at HOBY California and HOBY WLC. In the HOBY world, Mallory serves on the California Board of Directors and outside of HOBY world she works in San Diego as a special education teacher. At this year’s WLC, Mallory is looking forward to working with the team to create an experience for ambassadors rooted in discovery, joy, and connection.
Matt Plaks (Moderator)
Vice Chair of Connections and Incoming Chair

Matt (he/him) is a 2007 HOBY California-Central alum who has since served in various roles at California-Central, the WLC, and local sites throughout the US. Beyond his excitement for the move to the capital, he is eager to collaborate with and empower a community of volunteers to cultivate personal growth and inspire action for ambassadors.
Sarah Raymond (Moderator)
Vice Chair of Ambassador Experience

Sarah (she/her) is the 2026 Vice Chair of Ambassador Experience.
Sarah is a 2012 Ohio-West alum who has served in various roles at HOBY Ohio-West, HOBY Tennessee and the WLC. She is excited to lead the Ambassador Experience team and work closely with the volunteers while helping to create a meaningful experience for ambassadors. Sarah is beyond excited to move the 2026 WLC to Washington D.C.!
